Caravan to Cortes Island this Friday

Stop Island Timberlands from clearcutting Cortes - join the Caravan to
Cortes Island this Friday, Feb 24. We're leaving Victoria around noon
to drive to the Campbell River ferry. Some riders will be returning
Sunday. Drivers and riders are needed, so please send a note now.

Why now? D-Day for Cortes Island's forests may come as soon as this
week. Community leaders are presenting a final appeal to Island
Timberlands' head of operations in Nanaimo. Parts of the forest were
re-surveyed and a few trees have been cut (for scaling or log booms,
probably). At any rate, they haven't backed down yet. Time to ramp up
our game!

We're bringing camping gear and the work party. RSVP to offer a ride,
share a ride, or drop off gear to bring. Cortes needs:
-       Tarps
-       Tents
-       Climbing rope and regular rope
-       Pulleys
-       Happy campers

Can't go, but want to support the caravan? Make a donation online. We
work for free, but gas and ferries and ropes cost money. Send $20 and
we'll send you a free raffle ticket for the grand prize kayak
expedition to Johnstone Strait. Give $50 and we'll send you two
tickets. Check it out: http://wildcoast.ca/
