International Awareness Campaign for Peace and Nonviolence beginning January 30th to April 4th. It is a natioanl 64-day educational, media and grassroots campaign dedicated to demonstrating that nonviolence is a powerful way to heal, transorm, and empower our lives and our communites. Inspired by the 50th and 30th memorial anniveraries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Marting Luther King, Jr., this international event honors their vision for an empowered, nonviolent world.
“Our goal is to create a beloved community.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
Lynne Twist and the Turning Tide Coalition, San Francisco, CA on Spiritual Activism - If we really want to create a more compassionate and loving world, we first need to become more loving and compassionate, ourselves. We need a new vision of a society governed by love, where compassion is the high standard. Conflict between individuals, groups and nations is steeped in misunderstanding and distrust. Negative, fearful, angry thoughts fuel rhetoric from opposing sides that invariably leads to alienation. Nothing short of conscious communication producing sincere interactions will aid us in resolving our differences. Until our leaders understand this, there will be no lasting peace in the world.
64 Ways in 64 Days - Practice of Values, one for each day of the campaign. A practice for Children, for youth, daily affirmations and practice for adults. For more info - childrens @ http://insideawarenessblog.wordpress.com/ or adults @ http://www.waking2heart.com/
Announcements
THE THEME for this year's annual Season for Nonviolence event at the United Nations is "Global Peace Through Social Media". This topic was suggested by high school students in our New York City task force, and we are eager to put this thought into practice right away! The Association for Global New Thought is inviting tudents and youth groups, individuals, church and community groups from all over the world to contribute video messages sharing how they are making nonviolence a part of their lives.
Throughout the Season, there will be voting in four categories in videos submitted by:
• Individuals
• School groups
• Church groups
• Community groups
Beginning Monday, April 9th 2012, the top 2-3 videos in each category with the highest vote-counts will be selected. These will be featured as The SNV Winner’s Playlist on AGNT’s Youtube Channel and announcements will be sent throughout our networks about the winners, with instructions to use our collective social media power to circulate them locally and globally
